Sanggar Seni Tari Sawo Kecik presented a spectacular event that combined traditional artistry with modern creativity in the “Harmony of Independence: Cultural Arts Showcase and Fashion Show.” The event took place at Alun-Alun Sangkala Buana on August 26th, 2023, with the aim of celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia and preserving the traditional Cirebonese dance as part of the nation’s cultural heritage.
The vibrancy of the event was brought to life through captivating dance performances. Various types of traditional Cirebonese and Indonesian dances were showcased, including Tari Topeng Kelana Cirebon, Tari Topeng Samba, Tari Ronggeng Pesisir, Tari Bungong Jeumpa, Tari Gumbira, and Tari Persembahan Wonderland, a special dance performed by the parents of Sawo Kecik Dance Studio members. Each dance carried profound cultural meanings and messages, making the event a platform for reviving and appreciating the richness of traditional art.
In the development and execution of this event, two prominent figures, Ratu Dini Andhiyani Seminingrat and Elang Oon Andiyono Seminingrat, played crucial roles as initiators and driving forces. Both shared a commitment to preserving ancestral cultural heritage in the modern era while revitalizing the spirit of independence in a fresh and inspiring manner.
The dance performances took center stage during the event, with mesmerizing and enchanting presentations. However, it wasn’t just the dance performances that garnered attention; the fashion show segment also graced the stage with the theme “Vibrancy of Independence.” Participants from the Sawo Kecik Dance Studio, including parents and students, enthusiastically showcased creatively designed red-and-white-themed attire. Each outfit depicted a unique ambiance, ranging from eye-catching and attention-grabbing ensembles to those adorned with motifs and traditional garments rich in local wisdom. Additionally, casual attire also made an appearance, maintaining a stylish and casual impression.
The participants of the fashion show from Sawo Kecik were judged based on various criteria, including the harmony of their attire with the theme, the coordination of makeup with the outfits, as well as their stage presence and presentation while walking. After a rigorous evaluation process, the winners were selected as follows:
1st Place: Bunda Najwa, with the most unique and attention-grabbing outfit.
2nd Place: Bunda Tita, with captivating patterned attire and traditional dress.
3rd Place: Bunda Nanaz, with a relaxed yet classy casual style.
The event “Harmony of Independence: Cultural Arts Showcase and Fashion Show by Sawo Kecik” stands as evidence that art and culture can coexist with modern creativity, while serving as a means to instill pride in the cultural heritage possessed. Sawo Kecik Dance Studio deserves commendation for their efforts in preserving and revitalizing the rich traditional cultural heritage of Cirebon.
